Goodbye Pownce, shutting down Jance

December 1st, 2008 by Carlos Perilla

Well pownce is going to be shutdown on December 15 2008 and with that Jance will be left out of purpose so I have to shut it down, since I’m not really pleased with the move ( I’m a pro user with lots of months left) and also I invested a lot of time developing Jance, anyway I think It was a good school for me on xmpp bots and services.

Here’s the link to the official announcement: Goodbye Pownce, Hello Six Apart

When I finish updating my scripts, and pages, I will shutdown Jance, thank you everyone who used Jance and I wish you luck on the social network you decide to move.

I’m now on:

  • Identi.ca (My personal favorite)
  • Jaiku (I can invite If you give me your email or visit jaikuinvites.com)
  • FriendFeed(I Joined this to replace pownce, keep the same number of bots on my xmpp roster)

  • Hello Evan, it was an xmpp bot to interact with Pownce.

I implemented most of the pownce API and added some very interesting regexpes track/blacklist capabilites.

I don't know if it would be of much use for laconica since most of the problems it solves are now pretty much solved now for laconica, Yet there may be one or two ideas that might be interesting to see on xmpp bots from identi.ca
  • Hey, so, I'm not much of a Pownce user, but... what's Jance? We're thinking about implementing the Pownce API on Identi.ca, so your code may still be helpful to people.
